Ven. Thubten Chodron

Ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun in 1977, Venerable Thubten Chodron is an author, teacher, and the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey, the only Tibetan Buddhist training monastery for Westerners in the U.S. She teaches worldwide and is known for her practical (and humorous!) explanations of how to apply Buddhist teachings in daily life. She is also actively involved in prison outreach and interfaith dialogue. She has published many books on Buddhist philosophy and meditation, and is the only nun to co-author a book—”Buddhism: One Teacher, Many Traditions”—with his Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Sravasti Abbey is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Newport, Washington that strives to create peace in a chaotic world. You can learn more by visiting their website. You can also see Venerable Thubten Chodron’s work on her website which archives decades of her teachings in audio, video, and text formats as well as watch daily short talks or weekly hour-long talks from Venerable Thubten Chodron and other Sravasti Abbey monastics on Youtube.
